Solar water pumps

In the region of Rema the people often have to walk many hours until they reach a source of water and the path they have to take from the plateau into the valley is usually steep.

It is mostly the women and the children who have to go on this laborious march which often takes seven to eight hours every day.

In june 2008 the Stiftung Solarenergie installed a solar-powered water pumping system in the village of Rema together with its co-operation partner, the foundation "Menschen für Menschen". With the aid of power from the sun, the women and children no longer need to overcome the difficult path into the valley and the time they save is important: The children now have time, for example, to go to school during the day.
