The Solar Energy Foundation receives
an international award for solar light

Award ceremony at the Lighting Africa Conference in Nairobi

May 19th, 2010. The Stiftung Solarenergie - Solar Energy Foundation receives the international award for the best solar light. The prize was handed over within the conference "Lighting Africa". Different lighting systems for rural areas without electricity supply were distinguished. The award was given in the category of quality products by an international jury. "We don’t want to bring solar rubbish to the rural regions, but solar solutions that work on a long-lasting basis. They must be repairable and offer more than just light", said Dr. Harald Schützeichel, founder and CEO of the Foundation. The awarded solar lamp has, amongst others, a charging port for cell phones, a remote control that makes it applicable as a ceiling light.

The solar lamp from the Solar Energy Foundation was selected between 20 products, which had to prove themselves in hard tests. The laboratory tests were conducted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Freiburg i. Br.. The practical tests were, amongst others, carried out where the lamps need to prove themselves in everyday life: In poor, rural region of Africa without access to the power grid. The test criteria were: brightness, burning time, durability and reliability of the product information.
