Solar-Center - The supply network for Ethiopia

The Solar Centers will be operated by the graduates of the International Solar Energy School (ISES). The goal is to open five new solar centers per year. The first Solar Center was opened in 2009 in Yirgalem. In June 2010, there are already 10 Solar Centers, spread across different regions. From there, 33 villages are so far supplied.

Each new opening of a Solar Center means work for the solar technicians, light for the people and reliability for sustainable development. In fact, only if reliable service in reachable distance is available, people can plan their lives and their work with light. They can for example accept orders for sewing because they can be sure when the night comes they won't be in the dark. They can then work when the heat of the day gives way to the cool of the night.

In each Solar Center, four to five Solar Technicians work as a fix team. They will be trained by the Stiftung Solarenergie - Solar Energy Foundation, equipped with tools and materials and regularly trained. They will one day work independently in a nationwide network of solar centers.
